It is one of the regions of the world with more biodiversity. In Manu we can find all the variety of ecological levels existing in the Amazonas and it is therefore one of the most protected areas. In one hectare of land more than 250 species of trees have been found.

In the Manu reserve we can record 222 species of mammals and 1005 species of birds. It is located at the confluence of rivers Manu and Madre de Dios and its extension goes from the 300 meters over sea level up to 3800 m in the summit of Apu Kañajhuay mountain. Some researchers believe that the virgin zones of this reserve is locate Paititi , the lost city of the incas.
