In the natural reserve of Tambopata there is an enormous variety of species like the seawolf of the river, the gigantic otters, the anaconda, small tigers, ocelots, sachavaca, paujil, jaguar, wild boars, pacarana, yungunturu, eagle, and the macaw. Some of these species are in danger of extinction.

In the Tambopata reserve there are at least 630 bird species which make it an ideal place for bird watching; there are also more than one hundred species of amphibious creatures, 169 species of mammals and more than 200 species of fishes, 103 species of reptiles, 112 types of butterflies. For this reason the reserve is considered one of the zones with the greatest fauna biodiversity in the world.
